Third Party Insurance

BCND is committed to ensuring that NDs are recognized and fairly compensated within third-party insurance systems, including ICBC, WorkSafeBC, and extended health plans. As regulated healthcare providers, NDs play an essential role in patient recovery, chronic disease management, and overall wellness—and they deserve inclusion in publicly funded and private insurance frameworks.

ICBC

BCND continues to advocate for the inclusion of naturopathic services as part of ICBC-funded healthcare options, particularly for injury recovery and chronic pain management. As ICBC evolves its care-based model, BCND is working to ensure NDs are recognized as valuable members of the recovery team. By integrating naturopathic services into ICBC recovery plans, British Columbians have access to holistic, sustainable approaches to healing and rehabilitation.

WorkSafeBC

Through ongoing collaboration with WorkSafeBC, BCND has secured significant improvements in ND compensation. As of July 1, 2024, revised fee schedules include:

  • A 12% increase on per-minute charges for initial and subsequent visits.
  • A 12% increase for telephone consultations.
  • A 49% increase for initial reporting (Form 8N).
  • A 32% increase for progress/final reporting (Form 11N).

These changes reflect BCND’s successful advocacy for fair compensation and recognition of NDs’ contributions to workplace injury recovery. We are pleased that WorkSafeBC has committed to annual reviews of ND fees, ensuring they remain competitive and reflective of the care NDs provide.

Ongoing Advocacy

BCND continues to advocate for improved access and recognition of naturopathic services within all third-party insurance and extended health benefit plans. Our goal is to ensure that naturopathic care is fully integrated into BC’s healthcare landscape, providing patients with equitable access to the providers and treatments they choose.
